How to unlock Hard Mode in Dead as Disco
- Finish Story Mode on any difficulty. A single Easy clear is enough — Hard does not require Normal or S-ranks.
- Watch the credits or skip past them. The unlock prompt fires the next time you load into the main menu.
- Pick Hard from the chapter select. It appears as a separate row alongside Easy/Normal. Your cosmetics, memorabilia and Encore upgrades carry over; story progress restarts from Chapter 1.
- Equip the right accessories. Bring Tempo Window (from Hemlock) and Parry+ (from Hard Hemlock S-rank) into any post-Chapter 3 fight.
- Re-run Ch.4 and Ch.6 on Hard. The hidden chests in those chapters re-roll cosmetic drops — most notably an alternate Mirrorball Shard variant.
What is Hard Mode?
Hard Mode is the post-game difficulty in Dead as Disco. It re-runs the whole campaign with:
- Faster Idol BPM in select phases (Hemlock P2 +6 BPM, Dex P3 +4 BPM, Blood P4 +8 BPM).
- Tighter Perfect window — judgement leniency drops from ±60 ms to ±45 ms.
- Three Hard-exclusive accessories: Parry+ (Hemlock S-rank), Off-Beat Bonus (Prophet S-rank), Crowd Sweep (Dancer S-rank).
- Remixed enemy waves — adds spawn at half-beat offsets, forcing parry/dodge alternation.
- Hard-only cosmetic re-rolls on hidden chests in Ch.4 and Ch.6.
Hard Mode does not add new chapters or new Idols. It is a difficulty pass over the existing content.

How long is Dead as Disco?
A Normal clear runs 8–12 hours depending on how many S-rank attempts you bank. A pure Easy run can finish in ~6 hours. Hard Mode roughly doubles the first-clear time (12–24 hours) because of re-takes — most players need ~3 attempts per Hard Idol on their first pass.
Locked stages FAQ
How do I unlock Hard Mode in Dead as Disco?
Finish Story Mode on Normal or Easy at least once. Hard Mode then appears as a separate slot on the chapter select screen — the entire campaign restarts with re-balanced boss timings, the Idol re-skin set, and Hard-only accessory drops. Your cosmetics, memorabilia and Encore upgrades carry over.
Do I need to S-rank Story Mode to unlock Hard?
No. A standard clear on any difficulty (Easy, Normal or Story Assist) unlocks Hard. S-rank is only required for the “Roadie” trophy and a few Hard-only cosmetic re-rolls.
Does Hard Mode add new levels?
No new chapters. Hard adds remixed enemy waves, faster Idol BPM in select phases (Hemlock P2 +6 BPM, Blood P4 +8 BPM), and three Hard-exclusive accessories: Parry+, Off-Beat Bonus and Crowd Sweep.
How do I unlock all levels / stages in Dead as Disco?
Levels open chapter by chapter — Ch.1 from new game, Ch.2 after Arora, then a non-linear branch (Dex or Prophet) after Hemlock. Full table above. There are no “hidden” stages locked behind collectibles in the EA build.
How do I unlock Infinite Disco?
Clear Chapter 3 (any of Dex, Prophet) and the Infinite Disco entry appears on the main menu. It pulls from every song unlocked at that point.
How do I unlock My Music?
Defeat Arora at the end of Chapter 1. Drop MP3/FLAC/WAV files into %LOCALAPPDATA%/DeadAsDisco/MyMusic on Windows. The auto-chart pass starts the next time you open the My Music menu.
How do I unlock all Idols / bosses?
There are 7 main Idols plus the final Encore fight. They unlock linearly with a single non-linear branch in Chapter 3 (you can pursue Dex or Prophet first). The table of unlock conditions for each Idol is above.
How many bosses does Dead as Disco have?
8 in the EA launch build: Arora, Hemlock, Dex, Prophet, Dancer, Blood, Strings, plus the final Encore fight. Brain Jar has announced at least one additional Idol for 1.0.
Is there a New Game Plus?
Not in the EA build. Brain Jar has stated NG+ is targeted for 1.0. Hard Mode is the current substitute and is much more punishing than NG+ in similar games.
Does Hard Mode unlock anything in The Encore hub?
Yes — Hard Mode clears award the Encore wall’s “Sold Out” plaque, the Punk Leather outfit progress (1 of 3), and re-rolled chest contents in Ch.4 and Ch.6.
Can I change difficulty mid-run?
In Story Mode yes, from the Pause menu — the change applies on the next phase boundary. Hard Mode locks difficulty for the whole run; you cannot drop to Normal in the middle.
