How My Music works
- Drop an audio file into the My Music folder.
- Game runs onset and BPM detection on first launch (≈10 seconds).
- Generates a chart: combos and enemy waves are placed on detected beats.
- Saves the chart locally so subsequent loads are instant.
Recommended file specs
| Spec | Recommended | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Format | MP3 320 kbps or FLAC | Both detect BPM cleanly. AAC works but slightly less accurate. |
| Length | 2:30 – 5:00 | Under 90 sec produces too few enemy waves. |
| BPM | 100–180 | Outside this range the auto-charter halves/doubles the BPM — sometimes intentional. |
| Tags | Title + Artist set | Used by the in-game UI. |
| Channels | Stereo | Mono works but flattens hit-confirms. |
Songs that chart cleanly
Community-tested in EA: songs with strong, regular kicks chart best. Avoid heavily syncopated jazz or beatless ambient — the auto-charter falls back to a metronome.
| Genre | What works | What to avoid |
|---|---|---|
| EDM / House | Anything with a 4-on-the-floor kick | Drop-only mixes |
| Rock | Steady drum tracks, 120–160 BPM | Free-time intros |
| Hip-hop | Trap with clear hi-hats | A capella verses |
| Metal | Speed/Power Metal | Black metal blast-beats break charter |
| Pop | Most modern pop | Ballads with no percussion |
Pro tips
- Pre-trim silent intros — the charter places the first wave at the first onset.
- If the chart feels slow, your song was halved. Re-import with
force_bpminMyMusic.cfg. - For My Music leaderboards (community), share the song hash, not the file.
FAQ
What file formats does Dead as Disco My Music support?
MP3 (320 kbps recommended), WAV and FLAC are all supported. AAC/M4A files are accepted but the auto-BPM detector is slightly less accurate on them.
Where do I put custom songs in Dead as Disco?
Drop them into %LOCALAPPDATA%/DeadAsDisco/MyMusic on Windows, or ~/Library/Application Support/DeadAsDisco/MyMusic on Mac/Steam Deck via Proton.
Does My Music affect leaderboards?
Custom songs are excluded from official Infinite Disco leaderboards. They have their own per-song local high score and a community sharing system.
